Russians and Ukrainians have been at war with each other for a long time now<\/h1>\n
For the fourth year now, a full-scale and bloody Russian-Ukrainian war has been raging in the very heart of Europe, yet no one knows when or how it will end. Today, far from everyone correctly understands the true causes of this conflict, which is why few offer real solutions to resolve it. It is worth noting that Russians and Ukrainians have been fighting each other for quite some time.<\/p>\n
The reasons for these conflicts are well described and explained by the renowned Russian historian of modern times, Tatyana Tairova-Yakovleva, in her monograph “Incorporation: Russia and Ukraine After the Pereyaslav Council (1654-1658)”<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Tairova-Yakovleva emphasizes that conflicts between Russians and Ukrainians began as early as 1658, practically immediately after the conclusion of the Pereyaslav Agreement in 1654. She draws particular attention to the fact that modern Russian historians already have “an understanding and recognition of the fact that two subjects, who are very different from each other mentally, socially, and politically, united\u2026”<\/em>.<\/p>\nProfessor Tairova-Yakovleva<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\u200bFurthermore, Professor Tairova-Yakovleva, after a thorough study of Russian-Ukrainian relations in the mid-17th century, notes: “It must be remembered that Ukrainian lands became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the mid-14th century. Since the structures of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania persisted after the creation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Ukraine was part of the duchy for almost 300 years by the time of the 1648 uprising. Clearly, the mentality of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was dominant among the population of Ukraine.”<\/em><\/p>\n
It was precisely the psychological incompatibility of Ukrainians and Russians that caused disputes and conflicts, which periodically escalated into armed clashes and wars. The fact is that Ukraine, which at the time was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and earlier part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, was a purely European state, whereas the Moscow state, i.e. Russia, inherited the mentality, political system, and traditions of the Golden Horde. This difference in the character of Ukrainians and Russians manifested itself repeatedly, becoming a significant obstacle to the unification of these two mentally distinct peoples into one state.<\/p>\nUkrainian lands as part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. \u200bIt is well known that Ukrainians fought for their freedom and independence from Russia both in the early and mid-20th century. Initially, there was an attempt to create the Ukrainian People’s Republic, but it ended in defeat. Then Ukrainian patriots from the OUN-UPA fought for the creation of their own state, but their efforts also proved futile. In the early 1990s, Ukraine finally became an independent state, but Russia still cannot reconcile with this and wants to force it back into its sphere of influence and once again put the yoke of Muscovite slavery on the Ukrainians.<\/p>\n\u201cUkraine is leaving the USSR!\u201d. This time, the Russians will not succeed, and the adventure they embarked on February 24, 2022, was doomed to failure from the start. Today, everyone remembers the lessons of history well. That is why, after the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, the Poles, Slovaks, Czechs, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, and Romanians immediately began providing assistance to Ukrainians and continue to do so, as they understand the full danger posed by Russia. The enslaved peoples of Russia, including Chechens and Ingush, have also sided with the Ukrainians, hoping that the time will come when Ukraine will help them free themselves from Russian colonial dependence. The leaders of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom now also understand the challenges and threats posed by Russia, and have clearly sided with Ukraine, providing increasing aid in its struggle against Russian military aggression.<\/p>\n
\u200bNow, regarding the question of when the Russian-Ukrainian war will end. The author of these lines is absolutely convinced that this war will end only when the mistake of 1654 is corrected, when Ukraine returns once again to the fold of European states, and in alliance with them, gives a worthy rebuff to the imperial ambitions of the Russian Federation and the aggressive foreign policy of Russia.<\/p>\n
