Moldova\u2019s European Integration Course is Important for Both Moldova and Ukraine in the Context of EU Accession Negotiations<\/h1>\n

At the beginning of the week, the leadership of the Institute for  Global Politics, headed by its President Oleh Bereziuk, arrived in Chisinau at the invitation of the head of the Institute for European Studies of the Republic of Moldova Vitalie Marinu\u021ba. Together with Moldovan colleagues, a joint press conference was held on \u201cProblems and Prospects of European Integration of Moldova and Ukraine and Technologies of Russian Influence on Electoral Processes in Europe on the Example of Moldova and the Czech Republic<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

This was a kind of continuation of the event that took place in Kyiv two months ago in the presence of invited Moldovan politicians \u2013 \u201cHow Will the Parliamentary Elections in Moldova Affect the Joint Process of European Integration of Ukraine and Moldova?\u201d<\/u><\/strong><\/a> This event was covered at the time in the Ukrainian and Moldovan media and is described in detail on the website of the Institute for Global Politics. Its relevance cannot be overestimated, especially considering what is currently happening in both neighboring countries \u2013 Moldova and Ukraine.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Today, it is clear that the results of the recent parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova have sent an important geopolitical signal that democratic forces are capable of winning even in the face of Russia\u2019s large-scale interference in the electoral process. Despite gloomy predictions and Moscow\u2019s attempts to disrupt the elections, Moldova managed to develop a comprehensive defense strategy to counter hybrid threats and the Kremlin\u2019s interference in the election campaign.<\/p>\n

Maintaining Moldova\u2019s European integration course is of direct importance both for Moldova and for Ukraine in the context of negotiations on EU accession. Ukraine and Moldova are currently moving in parallel. This synchronized approach strengthens our negotiating positions and increases the importance of arguments in favor of the European Union\u2019s eastward expansion.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>This and other issues were discussed at the press conference in the capital city of Moldova, during which participants raised topics vital for both countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Republic of Moldova has demonstrated that its European direction is irreversible,\u201d emphasized Oleh Bereziuk, President of the Institute for Global Politics, in his speech. \u201cAfter all, Russia, while continuing its war against Ukraine, has also constantly tried to interfere in the elections in the Republic of Moldova, resorting to hybrid tactics \u2013 from propaganda and manipulation in the online environment to economic instruments.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Has Russia succeeded in achieving its desired outcome? The results of the elections themselves provide an eloquent answer to this question, confirming Moldova\u2019s resilience. They demonstrate that Moldova has no intention of changing its pro-European course and is moving towards the EU, as other countries in Eastern Europe did in their time. In his speech, Vitalie Marinu\u021ba, <\/strong>head of the Institute for European Studies of the Republic of Moldova, pointed out  that European integration has become not only a priority for the Moldovan government, but also a common aspiration of society. \u201cFor Moldova and Ukraine, the process of European integration has become a common goal. In Moldova, it is taking place in a complex geopolitical context, under internal and external pressure, but there is a clear trend towards democracy and stability. While Ukraine is fighting an armed war, Moldova is fighting a hybrid war \u2013 an information and economic war.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Bereziuk supported his colleague, noting that \u201c…both countries share a common goal\u2014European integration and preservation of democracy. It is easier to achieve this together.\u201d He also stressed the importance of close cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova in such key areas as judicial reform, the fight against corruption, economic reform, and security. \u201cOnly through cooperation will we be able to exchange experience and move towards our common goals,\u201d stated Oleh Bereziuk. He also said that it is necessary to strengthen the trilateral dialogue between Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania, similar to the \u201cOdessa Triangle\u201d, which can be used to determine common formats for regional security and stability. Magomed Torijev,<\/strong> Vice President of the Institute for Global Politics, pointed out that \u201ctime is working for us and against Russia,\u201d emphasizing the irreversibility of the European integration process in Ukraine and Moldova.<\/p>\n

Russia, which has been seeking to create a \u201cbelt of instability\u201d around Ukraine for many years, is trying to influence elections in Central and Eastern European countries. The victory of pro-European forces in Chisinau undermines this Russian strategy. Therefore, the failure of pro-Russian plans in Moldova has, so to speak, strategic resonance for the entire region. The Moldovan elections demonstrated the birth of a new model of regional security in Eastern Europe \u2013 a coordinated system of countering hybrid threats, primarily from Russia. The well-known trilateral format of Ukraine-Moldova-Romania is becoming a real instrument, with each country making a unique contribution: Ukraine provides experience in countering Russian armed aggression, Romania provides access to the EU and NATO, and Moldova demonstrates its determination to defend its European choice. This can be considered the outcome of the joint Ukrainian-Moldovan event.<\/p>\n

Later, the heads of the Institute for European Studies of the Republic of Moldova, Vitalie Marinu\u021ba, and the Institute for Global Policy, Oleh Bereziuk, signed a partnership agreement<\/strong> between the above-mentioned institutions, the aim of which is  to strengthen bilateral ties for further cooperation between the parties on joint research in the field of European integration and security, as well as to participate in international and regional analytical, security, and scientific projects.<\/p>\n
