«The European security system was designed to counteract the four fronts that had been formed in the USSR»
Excerpts from the speech by Yurii KOHUT – CEO of SIDCON Consulting Company, Candidate of Law, at the roundtable of the Institute for Global Politics “Problems and Prospects of Creating a New European Security System in the Context of Russia’s Aggressive Foreign Policy” on December 11, 2025.
- The policies of leaders are aimed at resolving their own problems, with security issues taking a back seat.
- The European security system was designed to counteract the four fronts that had been formed in the USSR.
- The European security system has been transformed into a system in which national structures account for a very small percentage.
- Strange as it might seem, the main contribution to European security was made by Americans.
- Global risks remain unresolved in Europe. These include energy, information, economic, and cyber security. And most importantly, military security.
- To talk about security, one must be aware of the threats.
- There is no model of threats to European countries in the modern dimension.
- Each country needs to understand what resources Russia can use against it.
- There is a problem: if the USA changes its policy abruptly, Europe will be left on its own face to face with the aggressor.
- As long as we have no counter-propaganda system, a security system in Europe cannot be created.
